Eco Committee

Mablins Lane – Has always been a very ‘Eco friendly’ school. We have undergone many initiatives over the years and continue to run campaigns, for example, recycling, energy conservation and bio diversity.

We have a Green Team and this is made up of children from each year group from Year 2 upwards. The Green Team meets each half term but continue to do many jobs in between meets, such as litter collecting, assemblies, and wildlife inventories. Many Green Team members have specific jobs and our longest serving members are Junior Recycling Officers – Tilly Vickers and Riley Critchley.

Our Green Team is led each term by Mrs.Barwick with the help and support from our Chair of Governors – Len Simm. The Green Team are an action based group and tend to do important ‘Eco activities’ each time they meet. Examples of activities are: planting bulbs, trees and flowers; bird watching in our bird hide and recording on wildlife; maintaining our willow dome and tunnel; watering and dead heading plants around school; learning how to take cuttings responsibly; making bird feeders; crafts from reusing and recycling; promoting Fair Trade.

On the school playground we have a rota of Eco Marshalls (Key Stage 2 pupil volunteers ) who ‘keep an eye’ on litter management on the playground. They will point people in the right direction towards the bins and explain to pupils about the importance of using the bins. We have a Litter Policy.

Occasionally we have visitors to the Green Team to do practical demonstrations or to teach us skills. Any parents who feel they could come and show us a skill or do a short talk to our Green Team are most welcome. Please contact school and ask for Mrs. Barwick.
