Governor Statement

As Governors, we work in partnership with school staff and parents to ensure that all children enjoy their learning and achieve their very best in all aspects of school life. Our shared vision for our children is reflected in the school motto:

“Learning Together, Learning for Life.”

The Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. The role of the Governing Board is to provide strategic leadership and act as a critical friend — supporting the Headteacher and staff, while also offering constructive challenge to ensure high standards and the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

Schools operate with a delegated budget that covers staffing, running costs, maintenance and resources. The Governing Board is responsible for overseeing this budget, ensuring that the school is financially secure and that resources are used effectively to enhance teaching, learning, achievement and pupils’ overall experience.

Governors also monitor the school’s progress and set annual performance targets for the school and the Headteacher, ensuring that appropriate targets are also set for staff.

The Three Core Functions of the Governing Board

  • Setting vision and strategic direction: Defining the school’s values, vision and aims, and contributing to the school development plan. This includes long-term planning for curriculum development and school improvement over the next three to five years.
  • Accountability: Holding the Headteacher to account for educational performance, pupil behaviour and wellbeing. Governor’s support and challenge leadership through ongoing evaluation and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Financial oversight: Ensuring financial solvency and effective use of resources to raise standards and improve outcomes for pupils.

Ofsted Principles

The Governing Board also supports the Headteacher and staff in ensuring that the four key Ofsted principles are met:

  • Leadership and management
  • Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Personal development, behaviour and welfare
  • Outcomes for pupils

These guide our shared ambition to achieve Outstanding.
